I was fed up to the back teeth!
I probably brought it upon myself, I must have read one too many of those posts that talk about the lack of inclusivity in business and in many industries… and then it was too late
The algorithms had decided that this is my preference and my feed consisted of a daily diet of posts and blogs of the injustice faced by ordinary individuals, would be career executives, and / or entrepreneurs seeking funding.
I saw the posts about the inexcusable pay gaps experienced in almost every sector; the articles about tiny fractions of funding that go to businesses led by people of colour; the blogs about police brutality… I could go on but I’m sure you get the picture.
It’s not that I think these situations are not real or I think them unimportant – quite the opposite!
The situations are too real.
What I got completely fed up with was the sense of “victimhood” that came across in many of the articles, posts, etc…
It was always about what “they” were not doing or doing too much of…
“They” discriminate in their selection processes, “they” keep us in debt, “they” limit our opportunities, “they” hold us back…
What was coming across to me as the reader was writers (complainers?) giving away their power to an all-powerful “they”
It is my believe that with the right mindset, each and every one of us can create the outcomes we want.
Some of the problem might be the “they”
However, much of the problem is acceptance of a victim mindset that believes we can do little ourselves.
(Yes, “they” do work hard to keep creating lots of messaging to reinforce this victim mindset )
So
Instead of continuing to ruminate about this intractable situation, I set up this group.
We are here to share, learn and grow with each other and most importantly, will continue to work on our mindsets so we appreciate and use our power over our own situations.
We are queens not victims!
